If you haven’t heard of all-rounder cricketer, Hilton Cartwright, it definitely wont be long until you do.
Being selected to play currently for Cricket Australia XI in the Matador Cup and being signed for Perth Scorchers for the last three seasons he is a very handy batsman to keep on stand-by.
In today’s match against QLD he was run out on 99 after hitting 4 sixes and 8 fours. He is a beautiful striker of the ball, watches it intently and is clever with picking out the gaps. Being a strong build these sixes weren’t ordinary they were usually over the fence of the field but once or twice over the fence of the entire ground, landing on a front yard of a house behind Drummoyne Oval. He also made it look very easy to play straight down pitch which was incredible to watch. It was gut-wrenching to watch confusion strike over Swepson and Cartwright before Cartwright slipped over and couldn’t make it across the white line in time. Again, this is a clear illustration of how cruel sport can be but I am sure he will make a comeback and maybe be moved up the batting line up for South Australia on Wednesday.
Queenslander Peter Forrest was the man who caught him off guard to run him out and realised as soon as he had thrown it what he had done.
It was a devastating finish for the youngster as he would’ve made a record with the first century scored this tournament for his team (CXI). Congratulations is also in order for him being named Matador BBQs Cup Man of the Match!!
I have no doubt he will be selected for an Australian test or ODI side in the next couple of years, very exciting to watch. I will be taken on a journey and hopefully proved right. He has a lot to offer and hopefully would make a crucial impact to the Australian side over the next couple of years.
I will be following him for his next game for CXI on Wednesday 21st of October at Bankstown Oval as well as during the Sheffield Shield games and during the BBL season for the Perth Scorchers.
