As a very passionate GWS fan I can definitely inform you that finals fever has officially arrived!
If you haven’t already heard you would know GWS Giants NEAFL side and GWS AFL side are both through to the finals this year.
Finals Fever has hit me hard especially after successfully securing tickets for the qualifying final between GWS and Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium. With my team being in the finals for the first time [EVER] is a huge contributing factor into why I am very excited for AFL finals this year. The thought of making the grand final in Melbourne seems absurd and a dream scenario. But in finals, anything is possible as each team has an equal opportunity of winning.
The GWS Giants will play their first ever finals game against rivals Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium on the 10th of September at 3:20pm. It is so exciting for the GWS boys to be part of the finals this year after their 5-year campaign playing in the AFL. Stevie J will be leading the side with his experience on the field and he will hope to get the boys straight through to the Prelim Finals. It is normal for the boys to be nervous but also excited as last time they played the Swans was at Spotless Stadium where they won by 42 points in round 12. Confidence and not cockiness is what the GWS boys pride themselves with.

The NEAFL GWS boys will also be playing in finals against Sydney University this Saturday the 3rd of September for a place in the grand final. They will be playing at Blacktown International Sportspark at 2:15pm and I encourage all GWS fans to head down there for a great physical game of footy. I will definitely be heading out there to support the boys and hopefully make it to the grand final this year. With the likes of Adam Kennedy, Tom Downie, Pat McKenna and Matt Flynn (who won mark of the year at NEAFL awards night) playing on Saturday you won’t be disappointed coming out to support them (unless they lose– but all fans will be in it together).
I encourage all AFL fans to get out to both games especially Blacktown this Saturday to support GWS in a great contest for a place in the NEAFL grand final!
