Manly halfback, Daly Cherry Evans (DCE) will join the 150- game NRL club on Saturday afternoon when his side takes on the Canterbury- Bankstown Bulldogs at Brookie Oval (aka Lottoland).

From captaincy, a premiership, his lucky red underwear back in 2011, a $10 million contract, representing his state and country and NO suspensions in the NRL, DCE will finally run out for his 150th NRL game. He will be running out in the same colours as he made his debut in, the Manly Sea Eagles which will no doubt be very special.

Whether you love him, hate him or envy him, you will never be able to change my mind about how much I support him. Believe it or not but his halves pairing with Kieran Foran aka Foz was what got me interested in the great sport of rugby league. I also have Des Hasler to thank for that. The respect I have for these three individuals is out of this world.

Yes, I did follow the NRL before 2011 but not as closely as I started following it once I fell in love with the halves pairing of DCE and Foz, who then went on to win a premiership together.

Ignoring the fact that he is a Queenslander (due to the fact most of my family are as well) his last name was something which definitely caught my attention. It is quite unusual and I vividly remember how many strange looks I got from everyone when I was shouting at the TV “GO CHERRY EVANS”.

His career has been a roller-coaster (to say the least) especially due to multiple injuries, contract drama and some labelling him as ‘under-performing’, but DCE has shown terrific commitment and loyalty to Manly after the backlash he faced after declining the Titan’s offer.

He has scored a total of 29 tries, kicked 28 goals, 12 field goals and in has scored 224 points altogether throughout his career with Manly Sea Eagles.

He has also played six games for Queensland and represented Australia in 11 matches (in which he scored four tries and two goals).

Congratulations Daly for reaching this milestone with Manly and I wish you the best for Saturday afternoon and the rest of your career, I’ll be watching 😊

p.s. for everyone who will ask whether or not his contract is worth it… 110% yes, as bias as I am, I think it is worth it. DCE is a brilliant captain and will maintain good consistency with Manly. Remember to ask yourself, would you have turned on the Titans to? I sure would have for my family…

Also I would like to repeat how DCE has NO suspensions in the NRL…. I am happy he is at least taking the field each week (if fit).Give it time and he will be a force to be reckon’d with, it will take time and faith which us Manly fans don’t fall short of.
